Course outline

Basic Combat Skills Training (BCST) consists of ten days of intense training designed to improve your skills, optimize and test your physical and mental performance.

Instructional periods cover:

      • Patrol Techniques

•Map and Compass

•Unarmed Combat Techniques

•Tactical Combat Casualty Care

•Basic and Intermediate Weapons Handling

•Basic and Intermediate Weapons Marksmanship

•Instinctive Shooting

•Immediate Action Drills (IAD)


At the end of BCST your soldiering skills are tested during the Combat Action Training Exercise (CATE). All your training comes into focus as you are required to perform each task flawlessly. Your confidence and skills are tested to the maximum as you plan, rehearse and conduct the simulated mission.
